Nude

20 Mar

I’m sure you’ve all been well aware of the importance of using nude in an outfit. I’m talking about any aspect; from shoes to nail polish to lipstick it all falls into the being so right category. It used to be that black and white were used as neutrals but more and more nude came into the picture and bam, so right!

My wish list this summer is to get a pair of nude sandals. I guess you could call them gladiator but just something that is comfortable, sturdy and goes with everything.

One of my favourite ways to adapt the nude trend is in nail polish. Right now I’m wearing a slightly grey polish that I consider in the nude family. I’d like to find a shade close to my skin so I blend in together. As hideous as that sounds its so pretty done the right way.

Things you should try:

Nude polish (this is a must)

Nude heels (in my opinion every woman should own a pair)

Nude lipstick (try to find a shade with a tiny bit of pink in it)

Nude accessories. Here I’d mostly be referring to the peach family but any pastel would work. I know it’s not your traditional nude but its so pretty.

Nails!

10 Feb

As most of my friends know, I am obsessed with nail polish. In fact, so obsessed that my collection of 100 was in need of a nice storage space, and not the floor where they were all hanging out. It was really hard to choose a colour, see what ones I should probably toss. So, my dad made me an awesome display case for them. From this new case, I was able to toss some of my super old colours and display all of my awesome ones. Really, it’s quite something to see any collection come together so nicely.

Anyway, this really wasn’t what I was writing about. I wanted to let everyone know about the most amazing find recently. It’s new and it’s essentially shellac for nails but it’s removable with regular polish remover which is even more amazing. It doesn’t last 14 days but it really does help with chipping. It’s made by Deborah Lippmann and it’s called Gel Lab. Essentially it was designed to make your manicure last as long as gel nails but for normal people, we have the everyday task of doing dishes, brushing off our cars in the snow, not moisturizing as often as we should and typing a million emails (at least these all apply to me). But this really does help with my manicure. Instead of it chipping literally an hour later (like for real), it lasts me about 4 days which is insane. Then, with regular polish remover (I love Joe Fresh – and it’s only $4) my nails are ready for another application and another colour.

It’s a base coat and a top coat and that’s it – simple and easy. And thanks to my super awesome boyfriend, a great valentines day gift!

Give it a try – it’s worth the $$!

Hey Fall, Hey!

1 Aug

So if we haven’t decided to accept it yet, fall is quickly approaching. But it’s not a bad thing my friends, in fact, it’s a VERY good thing.

Fall is my absolute favourite time to dress for because you can anticipate that you will need a light sweater or better yet, my trusty friend the blazer. It’s also a great time for fall nail colours such as burgundy, navy, sage and dark purple. Also try out black if you haven’t yet, it’s edgy but can still be dressed with everything.

This season I anticipate the colour trend to still be very present. I am always so happy to see when fall and winter isn’t comprised of nudes and black — boring! I’m a huge fan of colour and what better time to pull it off than now!

This fall try:

Flare jeans that go over the boot (they should just skim the floor)

A pair of booties, ones with a nice chunky heel (approx 1 inch high — you’ll wear them out)

A great leather bag (we’re talking constructed beautifully with a ton of detail but still understated)

Silk, fall is a great time to pull off a silk blouse

A blazer that goes with everything (go with a neutral even if it means black)

A burgundy coloured something — whether it is a blouse, dress, blazer, hair accessory or pair of shoes I think it’ll be your go to “neutral” colour.

And remember, when you are trying something new, you don’t have to go out to Holt’s and spend a ton of money on an investment piece — try it out in H&M because if you didn’t already know, they are SO on the fashion bandwagon!

Taking off for the long weekend enjoy xo

Try something new!

Heard of caviar nail polish?

Essentially it’s micro beads that you gently press into a thick coat of wet polish. You can buy this as an actual nail polish (roughly $25) or try the DIY version.

I haven’t tried it yet but what I would do is go to a craft store and buy the smallest beads I could find, put on a thick coat of polish and gently press the beads into my nails. I think I would try a top coat to see if it makes a difference but if you’ve got a party to go to, do your nails the day of, they will last throughout the night.

Try it, let me know how you do!

A little ombre love <3

9 May

I’m sorry to inform all of you but I’ve decided to write 4 days a week instead of every day. I know it’s kind of annoying but I feel like I can write better and write about things that people really are looking for and can find useful. But this is actually really great because I can focus more on the topics I have and make them even more useful and an “ah ha!” moment for y’all!

Alright, I want to tell you about my absolute favourite trend in the entire world, ever! Can you tell how much I love it!

Ombre is the name of this trend and you’ve definitely seen it before in the celebrity world. It can be seen in hair, nails and clothing and it gives whatever it is a bit of an edge and makes it look more unique. This look starts as a dark colour and fades to a light colour.

I’d say to start, try this trend on nails, it looks pretty awesome when it comes together and it’s totally different. Start with a dark colour and use a lighter tone of the colour to get this look. You’ll need 5 different shades of the same colour to pull it off. You’re looking for something like this (btw this one is totally cute).

If you want to try this trend in clothes it’s also really pretty. I picked up this boatneck tee from Joe Fresh (one of my FAVOURITE places to shop) for $14. It looks a lot prettier in person but you get the idea.

If you are a DIYer, try this. Honestlywtf has a great way to transform your old denim shorts. They are super cute. Check out the link, this is something you can create! http://honestlywtf.com/diy/ombre-denim-diy/

Last but not least, the hair! It’s definitely something a bit more drastic but honestly, it’s just hair, meaning you can dye it again if you really hate it. There are many different types of ombre as well. If you love the trend but don’t want to be seen as the girl with two colours in her hair, try a more understated fade. If you have blonde hair this will work best as you won’t have to go too light on the tips if you don’t want to. Try a look like Lauren Conrad’s or Rachel Bilson’s. Rachel’s fade is a lot more brassy but still really classy, Lauren is a California girl and pulls of the ombre really well. Lauren’s is a bit more dramatic but that’s the trend anyway so just go for it!

This is the look that I love. I’m a big believer in just doing it and I especially like to experiment with my hair. I’ve had ombre similar to Rachel Bilson’s but I wasn’t a fan of how orange it looked on me. I also have it a bit now (I had to cut my hair) and it’s a bit blonder. I’m going for Drew Barrymore’s look as I am a big fan of the contrast in the colours but I still think it looks really pretty. I have a very feminine style so I think that I can contrast some of her grunge with my girly style.

Would you try this trend? Have you tried it? Love it or hate it?

My Summer Manicure

8 May

I recently tried Shellac and I fell in love with it. It’s an instant dry polish that lasts for 14 days chip free. Actually it would have lasted longer for me but it grows out which is the only downfall.

They apply it like a regular manicure, base, 2 coats and top coat. The polish comes in a dozen colours and they range from colourful to neutral. I chose pink for mine because it goes with almost everything and it’s bright which I love.

I left the salon and my nails were so shiny and amazing. I expected that in a week or so I would have at least some damage from life (washing dishes, typing, etc) but nothing. If my nails didn’t grow so fast it could have lasted for at least a month without chipping.

I got it removed at the salon because it doesn’t come off with anything but pure acetone, plus it’s better for your nails to be removed by a professional. I actually found that my nails weren’t damaged from it at all which was really awesome because I have the weakest nails in the world.

It runs a bit more than a regular manicure but honestly it’s worth it. It’s about $30-$40.

Here are my pics (fresh Shellac and 3 weeks old). Try it this summer!

Polish up!

25 Apr

So firstly, I want to thank all my readers for giving me such wonderful support. I honestly never thought I would have such a positive reaction but we’re always trying to be better and I’m glad I can share some things with you that can allow you to do this!

So seeing as my beauty blog went over so well I’ll be throwing in a few here and there for you!

So, let’s talk nails! I’m a “change my polish once a week” type of girl. I’m down for trying pretty much anything because it can be removed.

I’m really into nail stickers. If you haven’t tried them, it’s a great and easy way to try different designs and they are instantly dry. Try Sally Hansen (you can find them at any drug store) and Sephora. Follow the instructions to use them but make sure you remove any residue from yor nails before you start by swiping with a bit of polish remover. After you are done applying them finish with a top coat for a longer lasting manicure. Try Seche Vite (beauty supply stores) as your top coat, because I’ve tried a ton and it’s amazing. My polish didn’t chip and it was shiny after a week!

So, Colours. Which Colours do you usually go for? Try something new this summer like a mauve (goes with almost every skin tone) or a beige. Beige is really subtle but if you have any sort of tan it will look amazing. Pink and red are great shades but they always seem to be a fall back for people who don’t know what colour to pick. I’d also suggest a plum or navy. These are dark colors but they look great with any outfit and are always in style. Always do two coats too, and wait until the first one is fully dry, your manicure looks better with two!

Blue is the new it colour right now. Although I’m a huge fan of experimenting with trends, blue nails are not for me (except dark navy) but try a tropical blue because it looks really springy. I’m not a fan for myself but I do like how lighter blue colours look amazing on darker skin tones. Try it!

Some of my favorite polish to buy: Chanel,Deborah Lippmann (they carry the best sparkly polish),Butter London, Sally Hansen, Essie & Opi.

What color will you be wearing this summer?
